summer nights

We spent a fantastic weekend in Pretoria and Joburg, and had a great time at the Jozifest on Saturday. It took place in Newtown, in an old industrial area, and there were bands, DJs, dancing and a great atmosphere with an interesting crowd.

Okay, I must admit that I didn't know any of the acts, but hey -
a party's a party, right!?!
Somehow, my favorite spot was that large, dark hall with DJs playing what I thought to be quite demanding drum'n'base and other beats.

And if this wasn't enough, we went to Kitcheners afterwards, and I just absolutely loved that place, the vibe and the incredibly sophisticated, cool music...
There is a bar, a dancing room and a Bismark painting on the wall above the DJ.
It kinda felt like a party at someone's home and I was soo glad I was invited, too ;)
It was so much fun to go out in a real city!

a garden party

We had our open air tribute-to-spring movie party yesterday and even watched two films (Ratatouille for the kids, and My Blueberry Nights for the grown-ups)!

Everyone was sitting around the garden in the mild spring air and the moon was rising above us.
It's good to know summer will be back soon...

difficult day

Sometimes days are just not working the way I want and everything is difficult. Friday was such a day and I didn't like it at all. But then, even difficult days can come to a good end, and the evening turned out to be a lot better than the rest of the day.
This art exhibition and the performance saved my day, and the party afterwards was fun with everyone dancing the night away. And now a full, free, weekend lies ahead!

Tennis Party

On the occasion of my favorite man's birthday, we had a little tennis party. Starting early before the heat we were playing doubles with some friends and had fun on the court. Here are some 'action shots' from the guys fighting for points!

the unexpected beer fest

Last Friday I was asked to cover an event for the magazine I am working for. I didn't have any information except the time and place, so I just asked my sister to come along and we went to see what Gaborone's party scene has to offer. Imagine our surprised faces when we got to the venue and the party turned out to be a German beer fest! Ha!
Of course, if I'd known this before I would have dressed differently, but anyway it was lots of fun and we even enjoyed some special Bavarian food. The only thing missing was the German beer, but I guess the well staged party made up for this!

Tropical X-Mas Party

The other night, we had a little party at our place.
It was the perfect chance for an early X-mas celebration and to say good bye to everyone before I leave.
We put up some Christmas decorations, lights and even a fake X-mas tree!

For a touch of 'real' German Christmas, we also made some "Feuerzangenbowle":



Hot wine with cinnamon, cloves, cardamon, oranges and lemons, and for the little extra, add some sugar and rum and light it up!



I never thought I would like this kind of drink in the tropics, but it went down surprisingly well....
