Sunset Saturday XXXV

A gorgeous, golden sunset in Tasmania during our trip to Australia in 2009. We spent the day hiking around Wine Glas Bay and stopped to watch the sunset on our way back to Hobart. Tasmania is such as pristine and wild but exceptionally beautiful place, and it was fantastic to see some of the highlights while we were there.

some more days around the Cape

Even though we had a full week in Cape Town, it seemed like time was flying too fast.
There is just so much to do there!

We managed to visit Stellenbosch and some of the nearby vinyards,

went down to another end of the world at Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope,

spent a lovely day at the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens,

and finally went up Table Mountain with what felt like a million other people and all the way down almost by ourselves on a very long, steep downhill hike.

After all these activities there was just enough time left to enjoy the fantastic views for a last time before heading back to Gabs.

It was a fabulous week (despite both of us having an ugly cold for a couple of days) and makes me wish I could live there for a while...

walking above the clouds

The Kingdom of Lesotho is quite unaccessible because it is soo high up and surrounded by lots of mountains. The Sani-Pass is the only way to get into it from the Southern side and it took a long and bumpy uphill ride in a trustworthy landrover to get there.

Of course, this was not the end of our trip: We climbed further to get to the top of Hodgson’s peaks, a steep 2 hour-hike and 3256 m above sealevel.

The lack of oxygen was compensated by a spectacular 360 degree view all over the Drakensberg, down to the hills of KwaZulu-Natal and inwards to the highlands where Lesotho ponies and herds of sheep grazed in the distance.

Walking back along the edge and peering down the cliffs makes you feel very small and almost as if this kingdom above the clouds is somehow detached from the rest of the world.

it´s the end of the world

the end of Ruta Nacional 3 at the Lapataia Bay is one of the main attractions in the Tierra del Fuego National Park. And what is there, at 'el fin del mundo'?
